Application areas

Concrete reinforcement

Aramid fabrics
The deterioration of concrete structures is increasingly demanding attention around the world. Several repair techniques have been developed, and solutions often make use of Twaron and Technora. A widely adopted technique is column wrapping, whereby an aramid fabric is wrapped around concrete columns that need reinforcing. This is followed by resin impregnation and curing. Column wrapping is used in repairs of old and deteriorated structures, as well as of structures that need additional reinforcement (e.g., to meet earthquake regulations).
 
FRP rods
FRP rods based on Twaron or Technora fibers can be used as alternatives to conventional steel pre-stressing bars for the reinforcement of concrete structures. In addition to excellent tensile mechanical properties, they offer superior corrosion resistance compared to steel. And thanks to the dielectric nature of aramid fibers, these rods offer advantages when electrical conductivity is not allowed (e.g., to avoid electromagnetic interference).
 
Short fibers
Technora short fibers are used to replace steel fibers in ultra-high-performance concrete in special situations where corrosion resistance and injury prevention are key.  

Masonry reinforcement

In masonry reinforcement, Twaron meshes are used as an alternative to a steel mesh. In addition to its mechanical properties, a Twaron mesh offers advantages over steel due to its easy installation, resistance to corrosion, and superior lifetime.

Blast mitigation 

Twaron can be used to reinforce composite blast panels, for instance, to reduce or mitigate fragments caused by a bomb blast in an interior structure.

Geotextiles

Due to its high strength, high modulus and good dimensional stability (low creep), Twaron offers solutions in the geotextile market in situations where traditional materials such as polyester and propylene do not meet the requirements.
